So, you’ve decided to land yourself a phone chat line job.

First off, good for you. It doesn’t matter whether you’re providing live readings on a psychic hotline or cheeky fun on a phone sex line. With a chat line job, you can make quick money taking calls from the comfort of your own home.

But if you’re new to this kind of work, you might be a bit unsure about what it takes to build a successful phone chat career.

Luckily, we’re put together this list of 5 dos and don’ts to help get you started.

Obviously, callers can’t see you when you’re on the phone. So you might wonder what’s the point in getting up and dressed to do your chat line job from home.

Surely, it’s easier to just roll out of bed and take calls in your pyjamas or sweatpants?

But dressing the part will help you perform better on the phone. It will make you feel more productive and ‘in the zone’ to chat.

This is particularly true if you’re working on an adult chat or phone sex line. Because when you know you look good, you’ll sound more confident and sexy. And that’s exactly what paying callers want from you.

Chat line jobs often give you the independence to work hours that suit you.

But that means, when you do choose to log on and work, you need to give the job your full attention. You need to be by your phone, ready and waiting to take calls.

On many chat lines, missed calls or poor service impact badly on your per-minute pay rate. So never log on to work when you’re busy, distracted, or feeling unwell. And don’t take personal calls that could cause you to miss those from paying customers.

Like we said, many chat lines give you a per-minute pay rate based on your performance.

So, if you want to maximise your earnings, it’s important to ask callers what they want and do your best to please.

Granted, some callers may have opinions or desires very different from your own. And you should never be made to feel uncomfortable when working on a chat line. But try to keep an open mind and you might actually enjoy where callers’ requests take the conversation.

Before you get started on any phone chat service, it’s important to brush up on their specific rules and chat guidelines.

This will help you provide excellent service while keeping yourself and your customers safe.

For instance, most chat lines aren’t suitable for under 18s. So if you suspect a caller is underage, a reputable service would expect you to hang up and report the call immediately.

Failure to comply with these rules could quickly spell the end of your chat career.

If you don’t enjoy your chat job, callers will pick up on the fact in your voice. And that means they’ll be unlikely to request your services again.

So try to have fun on the phone. Make the most of the opportunity to chat to new people from around the world and build relationships with your callers.

Before you log on to work, remind yourself why you wanted a chat line job in the first place. And think about your goals for your chat career. A positive outlook will help you achieve them faster.

So, now you know the dos and don’ts of building a successful chat line career, you’re probably excited to get started.
